About Fritz Köthe
1916-2005
The "Welt am Sonntag" newspaper considers Köthe to be the "most undiscovered German artist of the 20th century."
A very specific West Berlin variant of Pop Art has developed in the work of painter Fritz Köthe.
Fritz Köthe on himself: "Reality dominates all my work. So it was only a small step to my current paintings. Pavement with tyre tracks, poster scraps and cigarette butts in the gutter. Then advertising posters, racing cars and girls... And the girls from Playboy, Lui or the covers of magazines are, for me, the modern nudes of today. I deliberately use photographs as models, the colour pages of motor racing magazines or magazines."
Köthe deliberately breaks with tradition by weaving it into his work, like any other component of his environment.
Köthe's works reveal a consistency and seriousness that compel us to assign him the position of a ’classic" in the field of pop art.
The field of graphic arts, that includes artistic representations, which are reproduced by various printing techniques.
Printmaking techniques include woodcuts, copperplate engraving, etching, lithography, serigraphy, among others.
