The sea has always inspired art to create special works, just think of the maritime motifs by Caspar David Friedrich, Lyonel Feininger, or the artists of Die Brücke.
In the summer of 2023 ARTES brought art to the sea.
ARTES on the Move with MS Europa 2
Set Sail for Art
In summer of 2023, we went on a voyage with the MS Europa 2, inspiring the passengers of the most beautiful cruise ship with stories about art.
Art on Deck 9
The onboard gallery spaces on Deck 9 of the MS Europa 2 provided the perfect setting to display high-calibre art.
During the voyage, we presented highlights by Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Cornelia Schleime, maritime artworks by Lyonel Feininger and Alex Katz, vibrant works by Christian Awe, and other selected artists from our programme.
Review
Art Ahoy
On June 1, we began our voyage with the MS Europa.
On deck 9 we welcomed the guests of the ship in our gallery and gave an insight into the art collection of the ship in our tour "Art Ahoy".
Mykonos in the Cyclades with its blue and white architecture is a symbol of the beauty of Greece.
Thessaloniki, on the other hand, inspired us above all with its street art by international stars of the scene.
The island of Onassis and enchanting Corfu
The second part of our trip across the Mediterranean began with a well-attended gallery opening.
Our first shore leave took us to the island of Scorpios. Here Aristotle Onassis and Jacqueline Kennedy were married on October 20, 1968.
We continued to Corfu, the charming island off the northwest coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea.
