Abstraction

Abstraction stands for painting and sculpture detached from representational depiction, which from around 1910 onwards, spread in ever-new stylistic variations throughout the entire Western world and parts of the Eastern world.

The Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, born in 1866, is considered the founder of abstract art. Other important artists of abstract art are Gerhard Richter, Victor Vasarely, Joan Miró and others.
