Picture "The Singing One" (1972)

Joan Miró was born in 1893 in the Spanish art metropolis of Barcelona. Despite the initial reluctance of his father, who was a goldsmith and watchmaker, he received drawing lessons as a child. He attended a commercial school and the La Llotja art academy, where Pablo Picasso had taken art lessons just ten years earlier. Anyone looking to buy a Joan Miró painting will find a fascinating development from realistic painting to an abstract dream world in his early works.

From 1919 onwards, Miró lived alternately in Spain and Paris. He had his studio in the world capital of art and in Barcelona from 1921. Shortly afterwards, he created the famous painting “The Farm” - a perfect example of the transition from a realistic perspective to pictorial dream visions. Art lovers who want to buy a Miró original appreciate precisely this mixture of reality and surrealism.

In Paris, Joan Miró also socialized with the eloquent Surrealists, with whom he remained a quiet outsider. Nevertheless, he exhibited together with them in 1925. His paintings became increasingly abstract and symbolic. A trip to Holland inspired him to create the “Dutch Interiors”. The following year, 1928, he got married, fell into an artistic crisis and, by his own admission, wanted to “murder painting”. Nevertheless, he continued on his artistic path, and anyone who wants to buy Joan Miró will discover a fascinating further development of his style in his works.

But Miró decided to keep painting alive and triumphed. His precisely planned pictures became clearer and often contained only a few associative signs, symbols and archetypal elements such as stars, birds and eyes. They increasingly consisted of large, overlapping surfaces in bold colors, revealing Miró's strength as a colorist. Anyone who wants to buy a Joan Miró painting can be inspired by this lively and color-intensive style of painting.

His first “Papiers Collés”, collages and reliefs were created around 1930. In addition to his paintings, he also created an extensive body of graphic work, including Miró lithographs, etchings and woodcuts, which made him internationally famous. Anyone looking to buy a Miró lithograph will discover the essence of his unmistakable style in these prints. Works signed by Miró are particularly sought-after, as they create a personal connection to the artist.

In the first half of the 1950s, his work was dominated by graphic art and ceramics. He lived in Palma de Mallorca and received numerous commissions for wall ceramics in public buildings, for example for the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the Guggenheim Museum in New York and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1964, the Fondation Maeght was inaugurated in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, southern France, for whose garden “Le Labyrinthe” Miró designed sculptures and ceramics.

Joan Miró's works have been presented in numerous exhibitions around the world. The first retrospective took place at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1941. The artist received numerous honors and awards. In 1968, the city of Barcelona commissioned the construction of the Miró Museum, for which the artist donated forty works.

Joan Miró died at the age of 90 on Christmas Day 1983 in Palma de Mallorca.
