About Johannes Brus
Johannes Brus (* 1942 in Gelsenkirchen) studied at the Düsseldorf State Academy of Art. From 1986 to 2007, he was a professor at the Braunschweig University of Art; his students included Katharina Grosse and Karin Kneffel.
Brus works as a sculptor and photographer. He experiments with different techniques, with which he breaks with the conventions of the respective genre. Many of his works are characterized by an idiosyncratic sense of humour.
Works by the artist are represented in the Sprengel Museum, Hanover, Kunstmuseum, Bochum, Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Bonn, Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, Remagen and the Centre Pompidou, Paris, among others.
Johannes Brus lives and works in Essen.
