About Peter Doig

Peter Doig, born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1959 and raised in Canada, is the current superstar of the London art scene. Unlike most other artists of the Francis Bacon school, Peter Doig is a painter of quiet tones - his art is silence. In 1994, Doig was nominated for the Turner Prize. From 1995 to 2000 he was a trustee of the Tate Gallery in London, and since 2005 he has been a professor at the Fine Arts Academy in Düsseldorf in succession to Joseph Beuys and Jörg Immendorff.

In 2007, the painting "White Canoe" was sold for the record amount of 7.6 million euros - thus Doig temporarily became the most expensive living painter in Europe! His works are purchased by the most renowned collections, such as the MoMA, New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and are usually quickly sold out.
