Ai Weiwei
Ai Weiwei, born in 1957, is one of the best-known and most important contemporary Chinese artists today. His oeuvre includes diverse forms of artistic expression such as painting, installation, photography, sculpture, literature, music, and film. Inseparably linked to his artistic activity is his commitment to human rights, for which he is repeatedly subjected to reprisals in his home country. Nevertheless, Ai Weiwei currently lives and works in Beijing.
