About Richard Levine
Richard Levine studied at the Chelsea School of Art in Design and Illustration and first worked in a studio for 3D effects and on film animations before starting to work as a freelance artist. Therefore, it is not surprising that his preoccupation with holograms and graphic effects is omnipresent in his art.
He cites the Op Art of the 1960s and 70s, especially the art of Victor Vasarely, but also the Bauhaus as models. The artist covers well-known comic figures and animal motifs with oscillating structures and patterns. The results are works that translate Op Art into the 21st century with a pop appeal.
The field of graphic arts, that includes artistic representations, which are reproduced by various printing techniques.
Printmaking techniques include woodcuts, copperplate engraving, etching, lithography, serigraphy.
Giclée = derived from the French verb gicler "to squirt, spurt".
The giclée method is a digital printing process. It is a high-resolution, large-format printout on an inkjet printer with special different-coloured dye- or pigment-based inks (usually six to twelve). The colours are fade-proof, i.e. resistant to harmful UV light. They have a high richness of nuance, contrast and saturation.
The giclée process is suitable for art canvases, handmade and watercolour paper as well as for silk.
