GERHARD RICHTER. A SEARCH FOR TRACES.
19 March - 22 May 2021
ARTES Berlin presents the special exhibition GERHARD RICHTER. A SEARCH FOR TRACES, featuring 25 artworks by the artist.
Editions and works on paper are a central characteristic of his artistic practice. He alters details and sometimes entire compositions of existing works, creating artworks that are self-referential and original at the same time.
Many of the strictly limited edition prints are based on personal photographs. The exhibition examines Richter's artistic oeuvre from more than six decades. With four works from the 1960s, we display a significant section of his early editorial work.
The most recently published works titled "Sils" (2016) and "Mao" (2019), form the chronological final act of a search for traces that always balances between unique pieces and print.
CONTEMPORARY POSITIONS
19 March - 22 May 2021
Parallel exhibition to the show GERHARD RICHTER. A SEARCH FOR TRACES.
In the parallel exhibition titled CONTEMPORARY POSITIONS, we present works by Marion Eichmann, Cornelia Schleime, Elisabeth Tatenberg, Christian Awe, Edward B. Gordon, Lars Teichmann and Römer + Römer, among others.
Simultaneously, in our CONTEMPORARY POSITIONS exhibition, we document the current status and discourse on contemporary painting, while also displaying the diversity of the genre.
Cornelia Schleime's works deal with the subject of portraiture, Marion Eichmann's delicate collages create a tremendous sense of depth, and with the artist couple Römer + Römer, we present a unique position in painting characterised by a pointillist, neo-impressionistic style.
