Radical sensibility
Works of German Expressionism
March 23 - May 4, 2024
Dresden rebels turn their inner worlds into pictures: Obsessively and beyond all academic principles, the young painters Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Max Pechstein and Otto Mueller transformed emotions into a stylistic device and the observed into sentiment.
At the beginning of the last century, they revolutionized art as the "Brücke" group of artists. They strived for a way of life close to nature and rejected the conventions of industrialized society. At the same time, they re-explored and expanded the concept of beauty.
Expressionist works of art were created that have lost none of their suggestive effect to this day.
In addition to artists from the "Brücke" movement, the exhibition also focuses on works by Emil Nolde and the Bauhaus avant-gardist Lyonel Feininger as well as the New Objectivity artist Otto Dix.

Secret life
March 23 - May 4, 2024
In the ARTES Basement
Neon objects, graffiti, stencil art and collages - Van Ray, Mr. Brainwash, Albert Hien, Jörg Döring, Andy Warhol, Doppeldenk and many more demonstrate the infinite creative energy of urban art. Brushstrokes and spray paint, found objects and assembled material tell stories of the hidden, of dreams and the inhabitants of urban landscapes.
This street art exhibition invites you to take a look behind the glitter of the city and explore its shadows. Just as the hidden places become palaces for art, you will experience street art authentically and full of secrets in the ARTES Berlin Basement.
