Edward B. Gordon is a passionate contemporary portraitist whose works are characterized by his unmistakably subtle style. It is Gordon's view of the world that he transfers to his pictures in ever new excerpts.

A view that is always clear and undisguised, capturing more details than the common passer-by. The artist stimulates a touching potential of stillness and interprets his surroundings, his city of Berlin, his family, friends and acquaintances with a special focus and color tone - a panorama of uniqueness hidden in everyday life.

ARTES visited the artist in his studio and spoke to him about his art:

The city and its protagonists

Gordon portrays urban life - his works, created in a realistic manner, are reminiscent of photographic images. He transforms these brief perceptions into poetic, almost magical moments. He conveys joyful emotions, but also fears, in the people depicted.

These "painterly" observations develop an extraordinary radiance and their contrasts condense into sensual units. The paintings raise questions and allow us to pause and immerse ourselves in what we see - in the moment. His painting is always figurative, the brushstrokes impasto and self-confident.

Not only the "day paintings", but also his large-format oil paintings, on which Gordon works for months or even years, emanate a very special atmosphere that is based on the painter's remarkable powers of observation.
